Tips to Get Tickets for TV Tapings in NYC

Updated: Aug 18, 2019

Saturday Night Live, Jimmy Fallon, the TODAY Show, Good Morning America.

You may already know that these shows, and many more, tape in New York City. But did you know that tickets for these shows are absolutely free!? However it can be tricky to secure your seat for one of these tapings. Here are the guidelines for getting tickets to all the live TV tapings in New York City.

All shows distribute tickets through an application process, and they are completely free! While some tapings can be planned in advance others are based on pure luck. For news tapings like the Today Show and Good Morning America, you don't need a ticket. Instead just get up early and grab a spot outside! However, if you are seeking a ticket for a late night show there is a process to apply for them. Here are the ways to enter the lottery for tickets to SNL, Jimmy Fallon, and Seth Meyers.

Saturday Night Live

The competition is fierce to get a seat for an SNL taping. Applications for the season are only open during the month of August, and you cannot select a preferred date so keep this in mind. Email snltickets@nbcuni.com and include your full name, phone number, email address, mailing address, and why you should be selected to see the show. If you are selected to receive tickets you will get a confirmation email in September. In this case, no news is bad news. The lottery enters you for both the live taping and the dress rehearsal, but doesn't let you choose which show you get to see. Be grateful you won tickets in the first place!

You can only submit one ticket request per household, and only two tickets are distributed to each lottery winner. ID's will be checked at the door and you must be at least 16 years old to be a part of the audience.

Standby tickets are available starting at 7 AM the day of the show on the 48th street side of 30 Rock. Depending on the host and musical guest, people may line up for standby tickets days in advance! No matter what, it is better to be early. Don't show up at 7 AM on the dot and expect to be the first in line.

The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon

Tickets for Jimmy Fallon become available one month before the show. For example, tickets for the month of August will become available in July. Follow the Twitter account @FallonTix to be updated on the exact time tickets become available.

The application process goes through the 1iota.com website. You must have an account with this website to apply, so sign up in advance! Once you apply for a ticket, for the date of your choosing, you will be put on the waitlist, however this does not guarantee you have a ticket. Tickets are distributed about two weeks prior to the show. You will receive and email if you have been selected. You are only allowed to book tickets for the Tonight Show once every six months.

Jimmy Fallon tapes Monday through Friday at 5 PM. Audience members must be 16 years of age or older, and ID's will be checked at the door. The maximum number of tickets allowed per party is four.

Standby tickets are distributed at 9 AM the day of the show, at the 49th Street entrance to Rockefeller Center, as well as at the NBC Studio Store. Standby tickets do not necessarily guarantee entrance to the show. You can also get tickets to see the monologue rehearsal.

Late Night with Seth Meyers

Tickets for Seth Meyers work the same way as Jimmy Fallon. Tickets go on sale on month in advance and you must apply through 1iota.com. The maximum number of tickets distributed to each group is 4, and the tickets will only be released to the person who made the reservation. You may only reserve tickets to Seth Meyers once every four months.

Tickets for the monologue taping are distributed at 1 PM at the NBC Studio Store at 30 Rock. Standby tickets are also released at 9 AM on the day of the show at the 49th Street entrance to Rockefeller Center.
