If you're visiting Maine, odds are you are going to have a lobster roll (or two) during your stay.
The traditional roll, which is served on a grilled hot dog bun, can be prepared two ways: hot with melted butter, or in a cold lobster salad with mayo. Although restaurants may change up the size of the bun or the portions of lobster, there is usually not much variation on this classic New England delicacy.
But one Maine restaurant has put it's own unique spin on the classic lobster roll, along with serving up lobster in creative ways.
The Highroller Lobster Company resides on the top of Exchange Street, thus it can be easy to miss if you are just strolling through downtown. However as you approach the restaurant's red and white striped canopy window, you will find the joint hopping with tourists, and locals, ready to devour a lobster roll.
What makes the Highroller unique is that there are not just two options of sauces you can have your lobster served in....there are nine. From lime mayo to lobster ghee, HR offers various ways to indulge in the traditional Maine dish.
My personal favorite is the jalapeno mayo, which provides just enough kick to leave you wanting more. What I also love about Highroller is that their lobster rolls are bursting with meat! You definitely are getting what you pay for.
Just looking for a small taste of Maine lobster? Grab a lobster kabob, known as a "Lolly Pop," which serves up a buttered Maine lobster tail on a stick! The restaurant also offers fried lobby pops, lobster grilled cheese, lobster tacos, as well as other burgers and sandwiches. The shop is also well known for their french fries. Check out their full menu, with a list of all their sauces, here.
Whether you bring the whole family and sit down at a booth for dinner, or are just swinging by the bar on your lunch break, The Highroller Lobster Company is a great place to try a unique twist on a classic New England dish.
